Domaine Aurélien Chatagnier

Domaine Aurélien Chatagnier

Aurélien CHATAGNIER

Aurélien started his own domaine in 2002 after several experiences at domaine Jamet or domaine François Villard. With a lease of 1 hectare he was vinifing in Pierre Gaillard’s cellar during the 3 first years before he bought a farm on top of Saint-Pierre-de-Boeuf village. Over time he built a vineyard of around 10 hectares of Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph and IGP Collines Rhôdaniennes. His parcels are very steep and mostly planted on granitic soil. Dedicated and hard-working, Aurélien is now working on a project of building is own cellar in front of his farm. He is recognized by his peers as the bright future of the region, being one of its best young winemakers. The vines are farmed organically since 2016 although the domaine is not yet certified. Aurélien is about to enter the certification process. Only suffer and coper are used in the vineyards. The whites are vinified and aged in barrels. The reds are 100% de-stemmed and go through one-year ageing in barrels. "The wines are lean and pure. Although easy to approach they are very deep and thoughtful with high complexity."
