Château La Bergère

Château La Bergère

Camille BENOIST

Camille Benoist and his father took over Chateau La Bergère in 1998. Since then, they rapidly adopted organic farming and increased drastically the quality of the wines to become one of the most look after producers in the Montagne - Saint-Emilion and Saint-Georges-Saint-Emilion appellations. Located 2km away from Saint Emilion, the vineyard lays on South East facing slopes. It’s planted with 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines are growing on gravelly soils composed of sand and chalky clay. They are farmed according to “lutte raisonnée” principles and mechanical grass control is operated rather than using herbicides. The vinification is natural with minimal interreference and takes place in concrete and stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged for 12 to 15 months in oak barrels. "Sophisticated and robust, the wines are supported by powerful and ripe tannins. The finish is appealing in its freshness, spicy aromas, fruitiness and persistence."
